European champions Spain lead world rankings
BERNE (Reuters) - Newly crowned European champions Spain
have climbed to the top of the latest world rankings published
by world soccer's governing body FIFA on Wednesday. It is the
first time since the introduction of the rankings in 1992 that
Spain, who were rated fourth last month, have been listed as
the world's best team.

| Germany's gentlemen mountaineers reach final peak
TENERO, Switzerland (Reuters) - Germany's decision to give
their Euro 2008 campaign the theme of a "mountain tour"
provoked plenty of scorn but with the final summit now in sight
their team manager said the image had had a powerful effect.
Players and coaches dressed up as gentleman mountaineers for a
pre-tournament TV advert, the squad announcement was made at
the Zugspitz, Germany's highest peak, and Oliver Bierhoff
installed a large poster of a mountain in the team hotel.
